87 Juta Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg

The bright blue and reflective strips of the work clothes

of the South African worker pushes through

translucent glass. I can’t see a mop or broom

or rag, just movement and the blue

and green and white of his clothes. A woman

in a suit enters the building, he stands

with his back to the window to let her pass.

I take a bite of baklava, sip on Turkish coffee,

imagine the work being done.
